Myself, I'm the kinda guy who loves to throw himself into suspending his disbelief. I saw the film, too, and really dug the surreal color and kaleidoscopic incorporation of myriad film genres/eras. There was even a time or two where I felt like I was watching an old Universal monster flick, even though it wasn't black-and-white. *SPOILER ALERT* The unexpected UFO launch near the end is the best in sci-fi film history; if there was a drug that gave me the feeling that scene gave me, I'd be on it all the time.
